Spring Cleaning Day 2: Part 1

The Spring Cleaning Challenge with Ask Anna is now over. Sadly I wasn't able to complete this challenge by the deadline. Even though I may not have done the tasks by the cutoff I still plan on doing all of them. With the craziness that's been at the Mac house I had to take the tasks a little slower.

Day 2 of the Spring Cleaning Challenge was dusting. You were supposed to dust and wash all your ceiling fans. Remove everything from your bookcases, entertainment consoles, and kitchen cabinets and dust. This task was one that I certainly wasn't looking forward to!

I started with the ceiling fans. Mine were horrible so I actually unscrewed the blades and light covers and put them in the sink with hot soapy water. I realized after I had two done that I forgot to take before pictures. These are of two different fans. ( I can't believe I'm actually going to post these pictures.)

The next challenge was the bookcases. We had a total of 4 bookcases and one entertainment center. This task made me realize that some of our bookcases weren't very functional and more of a waste of space. We had a large bookcase in our basement for movies. It took up a lot of room. We decided to move that out and got an unused dresser from Old Macs Mom. It works so much better!

We also had a bookcase in the office for board games. Because they were on a bookcase Little Smac was able to reach them all. This room always was a huge mess. I realized that Old Mac had some of his clothes in an armoire. I decided that would be much better for the games to keep them out of reach.

While we were at it, we decided to get rid of our office and let it be a playroom for the kiddos. I was tired of the messes from toys in their rooms. We took two bookcases and gave each kiddo their own.

I don't know the last time I moved the DVD player, receiver, and cable box and dusted under them. I take the cheaters way out and dust around them. Honestly it took me like 5 minutes max. I'm pretty embarrassed that this isn't a regular thing on my list.
Ewww that is super gross!!!!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of this task where I will be cleaning out my kitchen cabinets.

Spring Cleaning- Washing Vents

We had a crazy busy week at our house last week. I got a bit behind on the Spring Cleaning challenge with Ask Anna. If you are following along with her you'll know she is on day 5 not 2. I have lots of catching up to do. I decided to tackle her Day 3 which was to clean all the vents in the house. I knew that of the ones she posted this would be the easiest for me.

I removed all my vents and washed them in the sink with soapy water. Her next step was to let them dry and apply some turtle wax. This task has been one that's needed to be done for a very long time. I'm pretty good about vacuuming the tops of the vents when I vacuum. It's the washing that has been neglected.

Nice and clean. Looks like I need to bust out the spray paint though.

I also noticed when I took the covers off the vents there was lots of junk down in them. Little Smac had put a bunch of toys down his. I took the vacuum and cleaned those out also. My hall vent for the AC was totally gross. When I took it off the wall I noticed how bad the actual ceiling around it was. I took my favorite cleaning tool, the magic eraser, and cleaned up the ceiling. It looks so much better!
Gah I can't believe I'm actually posting this.

A trillion times better.

What I have still to do Day 2- dusting the fans, bookcases, and entertainment centers. Day 4- washing the windows and window tracks. Day 5- washing walls, doors, trim, and touching up paint. Optional Day- Cleaning freezer and fridge.

Spring Cleaning Day 1

First I have to say that I'm actually super excited to be doing this. My little house has been super neglected. I'm also kind of embarrassed to show you pictures of some of these tasks. Hopefully I won't loose any followers during this mission.

Day 1 in the spring cleaning challenge with Ask Anna was to take  down all your curtains and wash them. While they were washing clean off your blinds or shutters. The final step was to iron your so fresh and so clean curtains.
Eww look at all the dust on these poor little drapes.

Before: This was by far the worst window in the house. Gross gross!!

After: Nice and clean.

Unfortunately for me we have 8 covered windows in our house. Some of which haven't been deep cleaned in who knows how long. This task took me a total of two days. I split up the windows so I didn't get overwhelmed. Although this was kind of time consuming I'm so happy I did it! I have one more day left to complete the second task. This one has been even more daunting wish me luck!

Spring Cleaning

Photobucket

I have been pretty vocal about how I'm not looking forward to spring cleaning. I haven't done a set spring clean job on our house since we've lived here. I kinda scatter those jobs out all year long. Our house is way overdue on tedious things like cleaning the outside of our windows.

I have decided to participate in the Ask Anna spring cleaning event. Anna is going to be posting cleaning tasks every other day on her blog. Once you have completed the task you link up your before and after pictures on her link party. Anna has also posted a list of supplies that you will need to have on hand. The cleaning party starts this Saturday. I think this is such a great idea!!  If your house is in need of a good deep clean, pop over to Ask Anna and join this  event also!!
