Spring Cleaning- Washing Vents

We had a crazy busy week at our house last week. I got a bit behind on the Spring Cleaning challenge with Ask Anna. If you are following along with her you'll know she is on day 5 not 2. I have lots of catching up to do. I decided to tackle her Day 3 which was to clean all the vents in the house. I knew that of the ones she posted this would be the easiest for me.

I removed all my vents and washed them in the sink with soapy water. Her next step was to let them dry and apply some turtle wax. This task has been one that's needed to be done for a very long time. I'm pretty good about vacuuming the tops of the vents when I vacuum. It's the washing that has been neglected.

Nice and clean. Looks like I need to bust out the spray paint though.

I also noticed when I took the covers off the vents there was lots of junk down in them. Little Smac had put a bunch of toys down his. I took the vacuum and cleaned those out also. My hall vent for the AC was totally gross. When I took it off the wall I noticed how bad the actual ceiling around it was. I took my favorite cleaning tool, the magic eraser, and cleaned up the ceiling. It looks so much better!
Gah I can't believe I'm actually posting this.

A trillion times better.

What I have still to do Day 2- dusting the fans, bookcases, and entertainment centers. Day 4- washing the windows and window tracks. Day 5- washing walls, doors, trim, and touching up paint. Optional Day- Cleaning freezer and fridge.
