Family Drawing

I decided to kill some time a few months ago at my favorite thrift store. I found a super cute frame for only $1.50.

After I got home it sat empty in my closet because I didn't know what to put in it. I found the cutest idea on the U-Create website. They suggested having one of your kids draw a picture of all the people in the family. If your kids are anything like mine they do this all the time anyway. I don't know why I never thought to frame them instead of hanging them on the fridge.

My oldest is big into drawing right now. I let her be the one to draw the picture of our family for the frame. I love this little picture. Even my hubby thinks this is one of the best photos of our family we have. I highly suggest letting your kids, niece/nephew, grand kids whoever it might be do the same. It will bring a smile to your face every time you look at it!

March Thrifty Finds

I said in February that it's been slim pickins at the thrift store. We made an unplanned stop there last month after MnM had an eye appointment. I actually found a few things this time.

I scored this lamp shade for $1. It needed a little re-attaching with hot glue.

Plant thingy for $1. I don't do live plants. I can't seem to keep them alive for longer than a day.

Old Mac found three light fixtures. We have brassy ones right now. I really wanted to just paint the ones we have but Mac doesn't think the paint job would last very long. The smaller ones were $3 a piece. Larger one $7. The finishes are slightly different but not by much.

Total cost for thrifty finds last month $15

Our New Favorite Store Thanks To Batchelor's Way

I hope you all have taken a minute and stopped by the blogs I spotlighted. I'm going to be talking about them all lots more! Ronda from Batchelor's Way is always finding AMAZING deals. One of the stores that she is always talking about is the ReStore. I had no idea what it was or where it was. For those of you in my same boat, it's a store that has tons of home improvement supplies for awesome prices. The items in the store have all been donated from various places. The cool thing is that all the money the store makes goes to support Habitat For Humanity in your area.

I've been wanting to check it out for months but it took convincing on the hubs part. We finally went there and will for sure be going back! We scored 4 drawer knobs for our bathroom at $1 a piece. That is such a great deal!

Before: Brass/Wood

After: Brushed Nickel

My advice if you are wanting to go and check it out too is do your homework around your house first. With all the items being donated they may not have exactly what you are looking for. In the event they do though you'll want to be prepared. There were lots of things we both saw and totally would've taken home with us but didn't
know the right stuff. (Now I have NKOTB stuck in my head). You'll want measurements on hand for where the item is going, a tape measure to make sure it will fit, and a truck.

They have everything from knobs, doors, light fixtures, trim, windows, cabinet doors, sinks, toilets, faucets. The store is
always changing since it's based off donations. It's kinda hit and miss. I personally think though it's a total must!!

February Thrifty Finds

Shockingly I haven't been finding very much on my latest thrifting trips. I have some things though that I forgot to post from last month.

Family board $2- I am going to put together a picture wall and this will work perfect with it.

Magazine holders $2 for both- My magazine area was OUT OF CONTROL this cleaned it up tons. I will eventually spray paint them but frankly I was too lazy.

Jewelery Box for MnM $3- MnM was in need of a different jewelery box so she could actually see her things. This little one works perfect on her desk.

Long mirror $5- This was my favorite find. I LOVE this mirror. The frame around it is super super cute.

Barbie's Crib 2

The finishing touches are being done to Barbie's crib! I had all the things purchased back when we started this little project a few months ago. Due to lack of time I had to put it on hold.

I purchased a wash cloth for the dollar store for the bathroom. I cut a strip and put it in the towel ring. I also sewed a rug and hooded towel for Barbie.

Not much happened in the bedroom but I finished sewing a comforter and a few more pillows.

In the kitchen I sewed a long rug and table cloth. I also sewed a little curtain and need to hang that above the window. Santa came through with a fridge for Christmas per MnM's request.

There are a few more things that I need to do before it is "finished". I'm really happy with the progress though and so is MnM!

More Thrifty Finds

I found some awesome finds on my latest trip to the thrift store! I have been looking for a bread box for awhile but I needed a big one. Our Old Mac isn't really a farmer but a bread man. Our bread supply is overflowing at times. I found a perfect box for only $3! I haven't decided yet if it needs to be painted or not. If I do it will probably end up black.

I also found a organizer system for the kitchen counter by the phone. It was only $1!! I was super excited to get home and organize my counter top. It was OUT OF CONTROL. This one for sure needs to painted I just don't know what color. My silly brain keeps telling me it needs to be cherry red. That isn't saying much though because my silly brain thinks everything would be better cherry red. Decisions, decisions.

Total cost for the bread box and organizer $4

I have some family members who are squeamish about thrift shopping. I admit at times I am too but it is super worth it!! I found a really good post about tips for thrifting by Bonnie at Drab to Fab click here and read what she has to say.

Barbie's Crib

I came across a genius idea for a barbie house on A girl and a glue gun (another one of my favorite blogs.) C Mac and I decided it would be an awesome gift for our little girls Birthday. My Dad gave us the bookcase that already had the dividers for the rooms. We started by looking at our local thrift stores for furniture and anything that was barbie sized. We scored big time with a folding house that was marked down to $10. The structure was falling apart so we C Mac took apart the house for parts we wanted to use. We also scored because it had electronic parts that light up and make noises and the best part worked.

We used scrapbook paper and spray adhesive for the walls. I took paint swatches from our nearest hardware store and made a  tile wall for the bathroom. We had leftover carpet that we nailed to the floor. The tiles in the kitchen and bathroom were from a stack of  tiles that we scored for $5. C Mac cut them down so they looked like real tiles and we hot glued them on. I found Barbie socks at the dollar store. I cut them up and made them into throw pillows for the bed.

This house is still a work in progress. I have to finish sewing the bedspread. I have curtains that I need to hang in the kitchen. I also need to sew pillows for the couch in the family room. Another fun thing Kim did was had Barbie pictures hanging throughout the house. I found some cute Barbie books and I'm going to cut out the pictures for the walls. I have also since seen a really cool one at All Things Thrifty.

This was such a cheap alternative to the ones they sell in the stores. It was a fun project for me and Old Mac to do together. MnM was ecstatic when she found out what her present was. I think she was also thrilled  with her other present from us, because no Barbie house would be complete without a dog, cat, and Ken. LOL

TTI (The Time I)...fell in love with a table

On one of the many adventures to the thrift store we found our kitchen table. There was a lady who was looking at it and had called a worker over. I knew I wanted it so I stayed close by and was keeping an eye on the situation. I seriously felt like a gangster/stalker just standing there and "secretly" watching. I decided it was a loss and we headed to the registers. When we were heading to car I noticed the lady walk out of the building with nothing in her hands. Not that she was going to carry the table out on her back but the gangster/stalker in me didn't even see a receipt in her hands. I told C Mac that we needed to go back in and see if it had a "Sold" tag on it. He agreed and we went back in.

I saw the worker at the register that was assisting the other lady and asked him if she ended up purchasing the table. When he told me no I was crazy excited he probably thought I was nuts. I sped walked back to the table before someone else could claim it. We went back and looked at the table and $125 later it was ours.

Before: EWWW

After: AHHH
The table was in great shape except for the cushions on the chairs. I went to Joann's a couple days later and bought some fabric to re-cover them. I bought extra material so that I could have a matching valance for the kitchen windows. I saw a great idea at Keeping it Simple. She has young kids also and had covered her chairs in plastic vinyl after the new material was on. With the help of Aunt Miss they turned out wonderful! They are so great to clean up and the material is as purdy today as it was the day I did them.

Me and Sis doing our thang with power tools. Gotta love the hole in
my cami and the double chin I got goin' on. I'm always "keepin it real" folks!
So there you have it my TTI story about my table. Give yourself a pat on the back if you know what TV channel does TTI's. LOL

The 70's called they want their wicker back

We needed a way to store our wii games, remotes, nun chucks, all things wii related. Off to the thrift store I went and once again they came through. I found some craptastic wicker baskets that I knew would work once painted. I spray painted them with a couple coats of black. They are long and skinny which is exactly what we needed for our cabinet. They work perfectly. One mans junk really was my treasure.

Total cost for both baskets $3.

Starting With the Man in the Mirror

We found this beauty on our most recent adventure to the thrift store. Luckily the hubster (aka Old MacDonald aka C Mac) and Bro in law 2 are lurps tall so they were able to get the bad boy hung. C Mac and Bro in law 2 HATE cameras especially when I'm behind it. I had to sneak in the kitchen to get a picture. My only regret was I should've recorded  it because it was hilarious!! Oh and if you are wondering (so you can score a bad boy like us), C Mac put brackets underneath for better support.

Cost of mirror... $10 from my favorite thrift store
Cost to pay Bro in law for help... $5 (in the form of a 12 pack of Dr. Pepper)
Hearing Old MacDonald squirm because of a fear of heights... Priceless
