Lucky Charms Inspired Tree

This past week MnM had a little break from school. I decided to take a break from crafting and do the whole Mommy thing. I'm back though with a super easy idea.

When I put away the Valentine stuff I noticed I have two things for St. Patty's Day. I decided to start with decorating my tree. We must eat too much cereal at our house because the only thing I could think about was Lucky Charms. I thought it would be cute to make the decorations for the tree be the symbols that are in the cereal.
Don't mind my horrible drawings. I am not blessed in that area. LOL

I figured the best way to make the symbols would be with foam. I went to the Dollar Store and bought a package of foam sheets. I then took regular paper and drew the shapes. Once they were drawn I cut them out and traced them onto the foam sheets.

I ended up doing a blue moon, yellow shooting star, red balloon,
purpley pink horseshoe, rainbow, green leprechaun hat, and a pot of gold. I glued a little piece of ribbon on the backs so they would have something to hang from.

I also wanted to make an easy garland. I went to Wal Mart and bought a 1/4 yard of sage green burlap which came to a whole .74 cents. I also used some leftover white fabric I had. I then cut both fabrics into strips and tied the strips onto the wire.  I don't really love how it turned out so I might do only burlap.

Overall I think it turned out pretty cute! I guess in this case it paid to think "inside" the box. (My two existing lonely decorations were the shamrock garland and leprechaun sign.)
